![]() ![]() ![]() (BB-65) Illinois LD Dec 44 L Dec 46 90% complete, covered in, This is the OTL list.įollowing the entry indicates a ship that was canceled before completion in OTL.Ī "†" indicates a ship lost to enemy action in OTL. So the US gets 2-3 repeat New Orleans' out of it.īasis for discussion with changes to be noted. Taking the 4 Soviet CL is obvious I think there are only 2-3 hulls - re read and you'll see that the initial proposal was "three or four", however subsequent discussion on costs and funding (we were going for New Orleans clones at maybe £10,000,000 each) and the other calls on Soviet funding means thatits likely that the order would have been reduced to 2-3 hulls. They never get a big refit - early war there isn't the opportunity (they can't be spared), late war there is no need to waste the resources. (Late war) Pay them off - there are enough modern cruisers about, and the manpower can be better used elsewhere.(Mid War - i.e when the US Cruiser production starts catching up) Divert the survivors to quiet theatres (S Atlantic, East Coast of USA) where they are unlikely to run into serious opposition, but can still perform anti raider/patrol duties.(Early War) Keep them in service (unmodified at first, minor mods as they come in for maintenance/repair) to add AA etc.(Cruisers? Carriers?) Didn't we say Alaska construction would be delayed by the pressing "Cruiser crunch" as the available slipways are all fully occupied? I think it was covered in the US Cruiser thread. Yes, we are building converted mercahnt cruisers as reguialr warships for the USN to take over in all those areas where teh Omahas were used in OTL.Ģ-3 Alaska as a big 24,000 tonner but with 8" guns and full fleet flagship fit (see the Alaska thread), the rest cancelled and effort used elsewhere. If we put the Alaska effort into the Clevelands and Baltimores, how much do they get accelerated? What to do with the Omaha class? Yes folks, we need them in the front line for a while (God help the crews) I think that means we accelerate the hell out of the Essex programme and the Midway programme We have decided to cancel conversion of all but the first three Independence class CVL, USN cruiser losses are so horrendous that they need the CL more. The other 2 XCV stay in Atlantic Fleet to free all their carriers for the mincing machine of the Pacific. This far in carriers, we have the XCV and the Proteus and Nereus, with Langley being rebuilt also: all are transport carriers only. What I'd like to do is to look specifically at the USN Carrier and cruiser programes. We have the BB force sorted (see the locked thread DECISIONS FOR THE USA TEAM) and the thread on IJN AND USN CONSTRUCTION PROGRAMMES but that's pretty much it.Ģ Montana, 4 Iowa and probably a third pair.Ģ-3 Alaska as a big 24,000 tonner but with 8" guns and full fleet flagship fit (see the Alaska thread), the rest cancelled and effort used elsewhere. I have opened this thread to deal with USN construction programmes.
